BTK railway to attract new investments to Turkey

According to him, this project is an ideal opportunity to connect East and West. Earlier, the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov said that a test freight train of five cars was successfully launched on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route, which proceeded from Baku to the Akhalkalaki station. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is being built on the basis of the Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish interstate agreement.

Azerbaijan has allocated a loan in the amount of $775 million for the construction of the Georgian section. The financing of this project by the State Oil Fund is carried out in accordance with the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan "On the implementation of measures for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project" dated February 21, 2007.

Within the framework of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project, it is planned to build a new 105-kilometer branch of the railway. In addition, a section of the Akhalkalaki-Marabda-Tbilisi railway will be reconstructed in Georgia, which will increase its capacity to 15 million tons of cargo per year. It is also planned to build a point in Akhalkalaki for the transfer of trains from the existing gauge in Georgia to the European one.

The peak capacity of the corridor will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At the initial stage, this figure will be at the level of one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
